U-Turn: Apostle Festus Alilu Apologizes to Pastor Korede Komaiya After Police Detention.

Apostle Festus Alilu, the Senior Pastor of Word of Power Gospel Church International, has issued a public apology to Pastor Korede Komaiya, the Lead Pastor of Master Place International in Warri, Delta State. This comes after a recent controversy stemming from a video he shared online.

James Paul Adama, the Convener of the Concerned Christian Youth Forum, confirmed the development on Monday, describing it as a step towards reconciliation. Reports indicate that Alilu was taken into custody by police officers from Delta State following his viral Facebook post, in which he criticized Komaiya’s teachings, accusing him of misleading his congregation with prosperity messages.

In a letter dated March 23, 2025, and obtained by The Wayout Media Network, Alilu expressed deep regret for his remarks, acknowledging the negative impact they may have had on Komaiya’s reputation, his church, and the Christian community at large.

“I sincerely and unreservedly apologize for the video I posted on March 8, 2025, on my Facebook page, in which I criticized your style of preaching. I regret the offensive nature of my statements and the harm they may have caused,” he stated.

He further revealed that he had taken down the video and uploaded an apology on the same platform, appealing for Komaiya’s forgiveness so they could move forward with their shared mission of spreading the gospel.

The forum, which was involved in mediating the matter, emphasized the importance of avoiding defamatory remarks and online harassment, urging that criticism should always be conducted within legal and ethical boundaries.

"We believe that Christian leaders should be respected and protected from defamation and cyberbullying. While expressing opinions, one must ensure they remain within the limits of the law. A criminal offense is not just against the victim but the entire State, and forgiveness does not negate legal accountability," the forum stated.

The matter has since been withdrawn following successful mediation, with gratitude expressed to all parties who contributed to finding an amicable resolution.

Despite the resolution, lingering questions remain for Apostle Festus Alilu. Has Pastor Korede Komaiya adjusted his style of preaching, or was there another reason behind this change of stance? Was the apology influenced by external pressure rather than personal conviction? His followers are left wondering what truly motivated his decision.
