A REFLECTIVE ARTICLE ON MY WRITING JOURNEY SO FAR.

My writing journey with The Way Out Media Network has been a transformative experience. From writing humorous short stories in primary school to becoming a 'Young Author' at 16, my passion for writing has endured despite setbacks. After a period of stagnation, I applied for an internship with The Way Out Media Network and was thrilled to be accepted. This opportunity has been a game-changer, helping me overcome my laziness, develop my writing skills, and gain valuable experience in article writing and editing. Through this internship, I've grown significantly as a writer, and I'm excited to continue nurturing my craft.

A REFLECTIVE ARTICLE ON MY WRITING JOURNEY SO FAR.

I am Emilia, and in this article, I’ll be talking about my writing journey so far with The Way Out Media Network.

I started writing when I was in primary school, you know all those funny short stories you lend your friends to read. Then, many became my friends because of my stories- I mean, I give them to read without giving a deadline for returning them. Good old days, right? When I was 16 years old, I wrote a book and was going to publish it because I had people who helped me proofread it and made some corrections that made the book okay for publication. And then, I gave myself the title; “Young Author”. To cut the long story short, I couldn’t publish the book because of some certain situations. I still continued writing and writing, and I forgot to mention, I’ve always been a lazy writer. I postpone a lot, and I still have a lot of unfinished works that I don’t even know when I’ll complete them. I did a lot of quote writings, poetry, and some other works on different apps that I can’t even remember most of them anymore. Funny, yeah?

Fast forward to 2025, during my 100 level second semester holiday. One of my friends who has been disturbing me to write more — because at this point, I had almost given up on writing — texted me that there’s an internship he’d love me to apply for. He explained what it was all about and said he had done it before. I got interested and applied for it, hoping I’d get lucky. And guess what? I got in. I was so happy, honestly. I read the protocols and I realised I had a lot of work ahead because we had already resumed and everything was already looking too choking. I felt so overwhelmed, but I told myself, Emilia, you got this

The internship started and sincerely, it has been the best thing that has ever happened to my writing career. I know I was experienced before I applied and even my course has taught me about writing — advanced writing — but this internship opened my eyes to a lot of things I didn’t even know existed. Is it the choice of words my supervisor would help me input while editing my articles? Or how I can now navigate websites, attach pictures to my articles? Or even the way I now view writing generally? It has honestly been nothing but the best experience ever.

I mentioned earlier that I used to be a lazy writer, but this internship really helped me fight that laziness because I always want to meet deadlines. It has pushed me into doing more research and writing that it’s gradually becoming part of me. I’ve really noticed changes in how I construct my sentences, how I pick my words, and how I arrange my articles to make them balanced — not too serious and not too playful.

Looking back to when I started writing, I can say for sure, I’ve honestly grown so much within the few weeks of this internship. Yes, it’s not a paid one, but to me, it’s a priceless opportunity and I’m looking forward to growing more and working towards my writing career. So overall, my writing journey has been nothing but a mixture of resilience, stress, growth, and smoothness so far.
