Multiple accidents causes chaos on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, resulting in multiple loss of lives and sustained injuries.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway experienced heavy gridlock this morning following an accident involving two trucks and a bus near MFM prayer City in Magboro.

The fatal crash occurred in front of the NIPCO Gas Station, opposite the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry headquarters, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The gas truck was reportedly exiting NIPCO when it collided with a bus and a fuel tanker.

In a statement made by the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, Mrs Florence Okepe confirmed the incident. The crash, which reportedly occurred around 7 O’clock the morning crashed a total of 15 people, comprising 13 men and 2 women, of which 7 seven of them lost their lives.

According to Mrs Florence, the Mack truck, after losing control was the one that rammed into the 2 other vehicles. The injured victims are reportedly receiving treatment at Divine Touch and Glory Centre Hospitals, Ibafo, while the dead victims have been taken to Idera morgue, Sagamu.

Apapa-Oshodi Expressway was plunged into traffic standstill after another accident rocked the area. The accident involved a fully laden 40-foot containerized truck, 5 commercial buses, and 2 private- owned vehicles, near Cele bus stop area. 

The incident was confirmed by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in a statement released on their X (Twitter) account. The statement goes: “a multiple accident has occurred at Cele on the Apapa-Oshodi Express, involving a container-laden truck that fell on its side and seven other vehicles. Emergency responders are on the ground and enroute, and casualties are on the ground managing the traffic emanating from this”

In another statement given by the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the truck suffered a catastrophic brake failure, which led to the dislodgement of the containers it was carrying and the containers crashed into the 7 other vehicles that were around it. In the end a pedestrian was killed in the crash while some other individuals sustained critical injuries.
