Writing, to me, never began as a lifeline or a means to survive. It simply began as a journey..:
As a secondary school student growing up in my country Nigeria, I hated all literature related topics. I got bored very easily and could not even finish a 20 page novel back then so as soon as I got the chance to choose otherwise, I moved on to my place of Interest then…. science.
Having a junior sibling who was so obsessed with reading and books never influenced me until November 2019. I was introduced to a novel app wattpad which contained books of different genres but I did not take it seriously until Co-Vid hit the world and we were forced to stop all activities and stay indoors.
The same app I neglected became a pass time and soon from one story I began advancing to more even exploring genres other than Romance.
While still at home little ideas began to drop in my head it started with specific scenes that I wanted to pen down so badly and not too long after, my first ever written work After My Honeymoon was published on wattpad and with time it gained so much reads than I even dreamt of and that warmed my heart so much.
HOW THE ACTUAL JOURNEY BEGAN
During my schooling in the university, I got more ideas I wrote down in my notepad hoping to develop them with time and back then, I thought all I could do was creative writing but I guess I was wrong because after school in early 2024, I began exploring other areas of writing.
Am I a pro at it? Very far from that but I am grateful for the opportunities created that led to the discovery of this talent.
I hope to earnestly learn more and take more courses that will make me a true seasoned writer. So far I have written articles thanks to the amazing company I’m currently interning for. I also have done a few academic writings and in the near future I plan to explore even more areas of writing.
DIFFICULTIES I HAVE FACED WITH WRITING
As a writer, I can certainly say I have faced hurdles most especially in the aspect of creative writing because despite the fact that developing characters and chapters can be so fun and Interesting , it is very tasking on the mind especially if you are writing for a client who has specific rules and deadlines.
Writer's block is a thing and sometimes when you feel down or sad it can affect your productivity in producing compelling and Intriguing chapters which has happened to me on so many occasions.
Academic writing on the other hand, to me is a little easier since websites like google scholar, google and chrome make research for articles and papers a little more easier but then again nothing good comes easy and every aspect has its own struggles but what keeps one active and effective is the passion and love for what you do.
In conclusion, a writer does not just put words that make sense together. A writer is one that passes information that is not only appealing but educative and captivating so someday, I hope I am one that encourages, builds and motivates people through my writing.
